ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN CHAPLAINCY
SERVING THE CARDIFF UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY
Welcome to the Orthodox Chaplaincy at Cardiff University!
The Orthodox Chaplain, Father Jacob Siemens, is one in a team of chaplains here to serve every member of the university community, whether they are Orthodox, of another faith, or no faith at all.

He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Churches of Russian Tradition in Western Europe (Moscow Patriarchate), under Metropolitan John of Dubna. He was a long-time honorary research fellow in the School of History, Archaeology, and Religion at the university, and while he remains actively engaged in research and writing, he also serves as the rector of St Theodore and St Teilo's Orthodox Church in Cardiff.

Fr Jacob's first task as chaplain is to act as a listening ear for anyone who needs it, to provide guidance and pastoral care to those who ask, and to encourage people in their spiritual lives, including participation in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church. He is dedicated to upholding the traditions and teachings of the Orthodox Church while offering assistance to all in need.
What's available at the Chaplaincy?
The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy hosts many joint events across the academic year.
Because the liturgical and sacramental life is so fundamental in Orthodoxy, though, the Orthodox Chaplaincy makes numerous additional opportunities available for Orthodox staff and students at the university to develop in their life of prayer and study. All are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for prayer and worship offered by the chaplaincy, and to get involved with one of the four Orthodox parishes in Cardiff. These include:

-
St Theodore & St Teilo (Russian - Liturgy in English)
-
St Nicholas (Greek - Liturgy in Greek)
-
Kazan Icon of the Mother of God (Russian - Liturgy in Slavonic)
-
All Saints & St Stephen (Romanian - Liturgy in Romanian)

Fr Jacob also runs a 10-week catechism class twice a year, together with an Orthodox Theology Club and an Orthodox Book Club on a weekly basis. More information on any of these can be had by contacting him by email.

He is always happy to meet Orthodox members of the community, as well as anyone that might be interested in learning more about Orthodox Christianity.
